Finding enough (and practical) storage space in your house or apartment can be challenging, especially when you don’t have a big house. Here are a few tips that have helped me while living in a smaller house.
- Adjust your furniture to the space you have
As exciting as shopping for new furniture can be, please wait until you really know the space you want to furnish. This way, you’ll know the potential of the room(s) and you’ll know exactly what is missing. - Choose a cabinet with doors
Open cabinets can be really nice, but they always have some sort of a display function, and you’ll want it to look neat and not too full. When you have a cabinet you can close, you can (neatly!) store way more of your belongings in the cabinet. This way the room will look neater and calming. - Find some furniture with double functions
Some examples are a bed with drawers, a side table or pouffe with a storage function etcetera. - Be aware of the storage space you have
For example, while it might seem like a good idea to bulk buy your groceries, it can get pretty frustrating when those groceries fill up your entire kitchen when you have no place to store them. The fuller your kitchen cabinets will be, the harder it will be to keep it neat and easily access the things you need.
